ESSAOURIA

After a first and rainy day in Marrakesh, we went to the coastal town of Essaouria.  It is a
beautiful town on the west coast of Morocco.

THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS

Our next visit was in the High Atlas mountains.  Mat and Rachel met a Berber family
when they visited last year.  We found their village again and met them on our trip.
This is a view from the village.  Back in the distance is our car.  It got so muddy that
we had to walk for quite a while so we didn't get the car stuck.

This is a picture of Hadeesha (L) and Salah (R) with their new baby and daughter Miriam (middle below)

Miriam with her little sister.  Miriam was very shy but very smiley.

Salah took us to see the town's olive press.  Amazingly, we saw an identical press in the ruins at Volubilis (see that page next)

This is where the dried olives are crushed before being pressed into oil.

We hit a snowstorm at the top of the High Atlas Mountains.  The road is windy, steep, and has few guard rails!
