We took a trip out to the Fayoum this past weekend.  This is inside a Pharaonic era temple out in the desert.

We went out with our good friend Ammon in his jeep.

Brave little Eden on top of the temple

India braving the sun and sand to explore the temple

And Rachel with the ever-cheerful Samara

We got stuck in some soft sand, took about three hours of digging, pushing, and creating a "road" with
rock from nearby slate beds.  Well, not all that nearby.

Still, the girls even just enjoyed the ride and laughed and laughed at all the bumps

Out in the Fayoum is a 2000 year old Roman city, that is where we stayed the night.

On the left you can see the old Roman house we ended up staying in for the night

And this is what it looked like on the inside

This is where Eden and India slept (L) and Mat (R)

We arrived just at sunset, this is Eden leaving the entrance of our little house

The city was all in ruins.  As far as I could tell, only one small spot had been excavated (R)

Lots of fossils out there in the Fayoum, this one of a shell

The sun setting on the ruins and the desert

The radiator on the jeep had come loose the night before, leaving the main fan to tear a big hole
in it.  So the next morning, we awaited our rescue vehicles, a couple of good friends from the church
came and picked us up and towed the jeep back into Cairo.  So wonderful to have such good people around us.
