India looking out the window of Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate.
More pictures from Taourirt Kasbah
Pictures from Ait Benhaddou. You might know this Kasbah from such films as
Gladiator,
Jesus of Nazareth, and Lawrence of Arabia
Asia and Eden saw a little Berber girl working with her mother in a field.
They wanted to take
something to her so they gave her an Egyptian papyrus bookmarker. They
took it out to the field
as we looked on. The mother gave Eden and Asia each a bouquet of red
poppies.
We met a Berber man, Sallah, when we gave him a ride to his village Anamer.
We went to the village with him (the one in
the picture on the left) and met his family. He and his wife have a five
year old girl, Meriem, who loved playing
with Asia and Eden. His wife is pregnant with their second child. We had mint herbal
tea and bread with them.
Rachel with one of the young mothers in the village. She showed Rachel how
to put
India in a scarf like she had her baby in. She was really nice and asked
us to send the picture to her
Asia and Eden both held some of the baby lambs. In fact, we had a hard
time tearing them away from
the lambs. Little Meriem was overjoyed at having such interesting friends
to visit.
Eden and Asia with Meriem. They loved playing together, tackling each
other, chasing each other,
and laughing the whole time. They were sad to say goodbye to their new
friend and still talk about her.
We didn't too much time (other than sleeping there) in Marrakech, but we did see
the snake charmers.
Asia and Eden both held the snake, but I didn't get the camera out fast enough
for Eden.
We did get this cool sheepskin lamp in Marrakech.
This is the back of the car, where the girls had most of their naps. Such
sweet children.
Our last stop, Essaouria, on the coast. The girls had a fun time playing
on the beach and we enjoyed the seafood.
Asia recalled liking our hotel room because it "had a shower in the hotel room
and towels, too. And a real toilet with
pink toilet paper." That just goes to show you the kinds of places we
stayed. Actually, all were clean and fine, but
having your own bathroom and warm shower were a rarity. The picture on the
right was with a little girl who was
walking along the beach. She kept watching the girls and seemed to want to
play. I encouraged them to go to her
and she ended up playing with us all for a long time. She was very sad to
leave the girls (she is an only child) and kept
asking her mother if she could come back the next day to play with Asia and
Eden.
India was having a great time until she did a face plant, then she just wanted
to be cuddled with.
In Essaouria there is a guy who makes masks and other carvings out of the roots
of
trees, this one adds nicely to our mask collection. Very gnarly.
The sun setting on our trip to Morocco. As you can see, a pretty amazing
trip!
