Matthew Whoolery, Ph.D.

I am a professor of psychology at the American University in Cairo, Egypt.  I have a Master's Degree in Counseling and a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology from Brigham Young University.  I teach courses including: Personality Theories, Psychological Assessment, Psychosocial Issues for Refugees, Good & Evil across Cultures & Time, Social Psychology, Personal Growth and Adjustment, etc.  My research interests lie in theoretical psychology, including values in psychological assessment, self-esteem vs. other-esteem, and a Taoist alternative to the assumptions of western psychotherapy.  I also am engaged in cross-cultural research between American and Arab populations.  I have been at AUC since August 2004.
